Holiday season!

Photobucket

Hope everyone is having a magical Christmas this season, and that all the houses (and all forms of housing) are comfortable and warm and lovely~

We saw 'Sherlock Holmes, Game of Shadows' today! I say...not as good as the first one, but still pretty darn fantastic! Who could say no to a movie like that, after all?

Home for the Holidays

Photobucket
Photobucket

Today, on my second day back at home for Christmas my family and I went up the mountain to go skiing! It wasn't too cold and we had a lovely little first ski of the season! The trails were slippery and good for going pretty fast down one of our favourite trails... Cannonball! (get ready for this Jim!)

Yesterday I went and got a very very very much needed hair cut, and it's pretty awesome now~

Jim is here on friiiiiday! So excited!

Robyn and Katelyn's snowy sledding adventure!

Yesterday after one of Katelyn's finals (I finished on friday! wheeee!) we went on a 15 minute or so walk away from campus to find an apparently legendary sledding hill. Katelyn has been looking it up online, and it was listed as one of Calgary's best sledding hills..and with it being so near campus, of course we had to go check it out!

We got there and it was super steep, and there were a fair amount of people on it so they had packed all the snow down already. Reminded me of the Juan de Fuca rec-centre in Victoria with their giant and very dangerous sledding hill that ends in a fence...loved that place!

We ended up getting totally soaked, and had an awesome time!
Upon returning home, her friend Mike (?) came by and we baked 4 batches of cookies! I have some to take on the airplane today because I am going hooooooooome!

correction: going home if the plane can take off in this snow. I'm thinking it will be fine..but still. ugh snow. ugh.

:D

Words

Photobucket

Most Canadians have what is called the 'cot-caught merger', where we pronounce the words exactly the same, despite their very different spellings. This is also true with tot and taught, and probably more examples as well!
British people don't do this. Apparently Americans don't either, with the exception of the west coast or something..? Can't quite remember.

It's interesting though!

In other news I have only 4 essays out of the 13 left to plan, and some terms to go over...and that's it! Review, and get to tests. Oh goodness me.
Back to that!

End of the Semester Crazy~

Photobucket
Photobucket

Outside it is snowy and there was a nice sunset the other day.
I had to take a photo of my awesome geoarchaeology paper this morning before I handed it it. Have to say, I was pretty impressed about my stapler actually managing to go through all of those pages. (21 pages!!!!)
Three of my four lectures are over, and two of my four classes are totally finish...and my study schedule is on track so far! Just a bit longer til exams, and I get to go home~

I vacuumed my room today. Be astounded.

Until Christmas!

Katelyn took a picture of us by the door, before Jim got on a train, to catch a bus...to get on an even longer train.
See you at Christmas!

I should probably get back to working on my paper...
probably...

We went to a shop called Bliss today for cupcakes, after my last midterm of the semester! Then to the lego shop to acquire...lego figurine keychains. :D

A (slightly crazy) man on the train said we looked lovely, and looked like models. How nice of him!

Mexico paper is finished. One more to go!!

Friday!!

Photobucket

Today we went to MEC for supplies, and then down to Fort Calgary where we dressed as mounties and took pictures!
It's minus 16.C today, and supposed to get colder tonight! Good thing I have fleece socks~

We also went to the Museum again so Jim could get a year membership...and then trundled home. It's still snowing and very chilly!
I've got to study for my next midterm a bit tonight..after dinner?

Lately?

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Firstly, all these pictures are different sizes because I just installed a shiny new photoshop and don't really know how to use it yet. Working on that! It's very pretty and nice though, so it shouldn't take long. Photoshop, don't fail me now!

Lately it was Halloween and my roommate Katelyn was dresses as a garden gnome in the morning, and I stumbled from my room wearing a onesie, in search of tea. I took a picture because I wasn't awake enough to properly register what was going on. It was a good idea, and her costume looks awesome!
I'm lame, and therefore didn't dress up. I only had two classes and then I was home..so there wasn't much point, really.

I'm almost finished stamping out my longest paper of this semester. It's clocking in at nearly 4600 words at the moment, with 6 pages of images not included in that count. This is good, but it is also the paper that is due the farthest from now...I should probably work on the other, shorter, and probably easier papers soon.
Probably...

I'd like to note that I found my lost hat after a week or two or whatever and was the happiest archaeologist. I did actually squeal a little in joy!

I'd also like to note that this is going to be THE LONGEST WEEK EVER. Next wed...you need to get here now. This very instant. Nownownownowonw... Oh, and don't forget to bring Jimmy along too. :D

Childhood.

Totoro, anyone?
I don't know how old I was when I first watched this movie, but I still love it to pieces!
I can't tell you how much I wanted my hair to float up when I yelled when I was younger, or the need to ride the cat-bus and have a giant Totoro stuffie. (all these things are still true!)

Curry and Cupcakes.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Today after my classes I came home and made a potato curry, as pictures above there! It contains eight potatoes, a zucchini, an onion, and so many spices that my nose is still tingling a bit after cooking at..hours ago...

It cooked in the slowcooker while I went off to the WATCH ME MOVE exhibit on at the Glenbow, a portfolio of Animation over the last 150 years. We didn't get to spend as much time there as I would have liked, but it is utterly brilliant, and I can't wait to go back! Thank you year pass! (Christina and I got cupcakes and toothepaste that is apple flavoured on the way there..)
Jimmy, we are definitely going to be going to this and watching eeeverything. It's so neat!

That clothing picture isn't accurate for today, but I forgot to put it up yesterday. today I wore a shirt with birds on it. Put a bird on it!
Accurate for at the moment is...

Sunday + Monday

Photobucket
Photobucket

Before you say anything, I know I took a mirror picture again! Soooorry, but it's the best way to get any good lighting in this place! The main room doesn't actually have a window or anything...

Anyways that it what I was wearing today...it's getting a little chilly outside this time of the year! Also I really just like wearing hats and scarves all the time.
And you know what? It was a brilliant monday!!
I got to eat more of the fantastic curry chicken fried rice (picture is that in the making!) that I constructed on sunday, and I made enough to last me for the next few days. Or at least until mid week, depending on how hungry I get!

I spent three hours this evening looking though mesoamerican codices, and drawing pictures from them. This is my work! Then there was skyping with the mom, aaand now I'm doing this. I should probably stamp out some more paragraphs on one of the 400 things I have to do at some point soon...but in reality, I'm just going to watch a bit of American Dad, have more food because I'm starving today, and go to bed.

:D

Cat-Dave.

Photobucket

That is Dave, with a cat's head per his specific request.
It's a bit scary! I'm not sure if his head on the cat's body was scarier though...and no I don't have a picture of that. (it's apparently still around though!)

Thought I'd also share that fact that I just did 4 exams in less than 48 hours, am pretty sure I did awesomely on all of them, and am seriously considering going to Safeway to buy a box of double fudge magnum bars and eating them all at once...

I might do that tomorrow.

Thursday, October 13, 2011

good god.

No picture this evening,
for I am a tired girl.

There were two midterms today,
one in Geoarchaeology (yay!)
and one in History (yay?!).

Tomorrow I have one at ten am,
and another at 11am.

Then I'm going home to sleep.
Or I'll buy coffee...

Probably I'll go buy a coffee,
and then get home and pass out,
totally forgetting about the coffee.

No studying is happening after my tests tomorrow.

Have a nice train ride, Jimmy!
(think up some cartoons?)

Sometimes things like this happen when I stayed up til 3am for saturday and sunday studying. Sometimes it just has to be the 20's, even just a little bit!
I've been sat at our kitchen table aaaall weekend long reading textbooks and making notes, and...staring at the wall, and skyping people, and now it's the last bit of ol' Thanksgiving weekend and I can't study.

Not even when I have 4 midterms a the end of this week and definitely want to.
I will not absorb anything!
I should maybe start a paper...but more likely is I'll go to bed in a few minutes :l sleeeeepy Robyn!

Today is Thursday

Photobucket

It's official.
My photoshop has utterly totalled itself. The darn program won't even open anymore, much less let my kind of do work and then refuse to save it... I'm really not sure what's worse!

On another note onesies are awesome, and a handmade plain onesie that your awesome friend made, paired with fleece striped socks that clash horribly, is all that more awesome!

On another, another note...it's been raining for 12 hours now, and it's cold and NO ONE HAS FIXED MY WINDOW YET so I can't very well close it if the wind is blowing in and being horrid and such, now can I? Didn't think so!

rawh~

Oct 1st!

Photobucket
Photobucket

If that first picture is still sideways...I'm assuming it will sort itself out ~

I'm sitting around studying at the moment, and though this would be a better use of my time...for a few minutes! I drew a train on my arm this week...it stayed for a bit.

Also, apparently there was a chemical leak in my building this morning down in the basement (which explains the fire trucks this morning). It was contained and isn't a threat to anyone, but they've had to turn the heat off to prevent..something or other, and we've been asked to close our windows. I CAN'T close my window, however, since no one has come to fix it...so I'll just be a bit on the cooler side for a bit, which is cool with me.

What I want to know though...is that sort of chemical do they have enough of in the basement, that could cause all this?!

Ynys sleeps under a leaf!

Photobucket
Photobucket

Last night I was reading about maize domestication in the heart of Mesoamerica, when I heard a great crash out in the main room! I jumped up to make sure no one was hurt, and saw the vase on the ground. Katelyn said she must have nudged it or something, and it slid off the table. Poor little vase! No one got hurt though, and it was all cleaned up quickly.

In other news I had my first Geoarchaeology lab yesterday and we played with dirt for an hour! (well, actually I had a clay. haha...oh dear) It is going to be a pretty excellent class, I think! I'm definitely in the right field~

In other other news, I'm having a nice long lie in tomorrow, then writing a short paper about a coin. I'm sleeeeepy!

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

When I'm lazy about the blog, I take a picture with the webcam.

Photobucket

Just to let people know I'm still alive and things!

Today I had my class on Geoarchaeology! We talked about soil layers...and I almost fell asleep. I should stop forgetting to make tea when I get up, I think! Also, I don't like sitting in class for more than 50 minutes. The classes on Tues/Thurs are only twice a week of course, buuuut that means they are an extra 25 minutes long each and you can definitely tell! Ah Well. The prof said to not wear nice clothing to the labs this week, and we would be playing with soil types and doing texture and things. (This is good, as I never got to do context sheets in the field this summer) So excited!

After class I met up with Christina and went to rejoin the Alberta Arky society, and Chacmool for this school year! We also joined the school's shiny new TOMS club, which is going to organizing shoe drives, and a proper One Day Without Shoes and everything! I'm pretty darn excited for that! They gave us a couple TOMS stickers, like the one on my laptop. (Jimmy, I'll keep one here for you if you like?)

I fixed my TOMS today, in other news. Hadn't done any darning in aaages. And I got to use some of the embroidery thread I picked up on the IOM for just such a reason~

Off to Early Medieval Europe class, where the prof did her masters on 9th century Viking raids, and I have to go early to get a good seat! I shall finish that coffee, and pack a snack! (meeting with some arky people after to discuss a theoretical problem from class. Ancient Mexico class! bwaha!)

Chacmool, among other things?

Photobucket

Photobucket

That is a poster design I've worked out for the 44th Chacmool conference! I don't know what design they are going to use, but this is one of my favourites. I drew the logo, and put the poster together... It's really exciting! And apparently I'm an executive for the conference and get to go to all the things for free! So excited! I'm pretty proud of my logo for the conference as well~
(and then below, the face behind the poster looking a bit tired and holding tea)

I think my welshman should post more...just saying! :D

Tonight I get to sleep on my lovely new foamy thing on my bed, because it was a bit uncomfortable for the last few nights..so I got a bit of a memory foam to make it nicer, and probably a bit warmer! That stuff keeps a bit of heat in sometimes~

YAM hall

Photobucket

Back in halls! Yamnuska Hall, to be exact...except no one can actually say that, so we're just calling it Yam mostly. It's project Ya! ...but...linguistically that is really awkward..so...Yam it is!

The hall is really nice, and my room is really excellent! We are the very first group of students to get to live in this building, as they were building it for all of last year, and it's really exciting to be part of the 'test group'.

Today I had a few people over (Christina, Cory, and Brianne) at various points because I haven't seem most of them in ages! It was lovely seeing everyone over here again, and I hope they had just as nice of a day as I did.
Ohh the security van thing just drove by outside. There are drunken shenanigans going around outside and things during O-Week (and..all the time...), so they police via car sometimes.

On a side note, I just typed shenanigans there, correctly on my first try. I know I'm surprised!

Photo is of me and my roommate Katelyn in our hall shirts, and matching blue Students Union sunglasses, after having triumphantly done our dishes within 24 hours of making them!

The return to Calgary!

Photobucket
Photobucket

I have returned to Calgary, the home of my pretty well adored University of Calgary. The weather has been coolish to mildly warm, sunny, and windy all together, and has yet to go above twenty (maybe not even that) degrees Celsius!
I'm a happy camper!

This basement is pretty chilly, hence that toque, scarf, and Big Yellow I'm a-wearing in the top picture there. Me familia is playing some strange form of darts at the moment, but I'm not to interested. I'd rather lay on this giant foam mattress on the floor in my fuzzy purple socks and possibly read some of my Marriage in the Middle Ages textbook because I'm that cool...right? right.

Ahh there are ever so many things I am excited about right now! So very very many things. Things like school, and classes, friends, holidays, christmas break, visitors, adventures...ect... -cough- I should try to enjoy everything in between, but I think most of that will be filled with paper writing and such, so I'll try my best, but we'll see...we'll see. :D

I think I'm going to the Glenbow museum tomorrow! It shall be grand and exciting!
I'm still cold..and sleepy. Should probably turn in?

Nos da! (look Jim, a word I can remember for more than a moment!)

Sunday!

Photobucket

Today I did the Swim crew for Ironman Canada! It was pretty exciting and all, and I got to be in my kayak fooooor 4 hours, came home and had a nap. It was a lovely nap!

I did crafts with Jim for a bit, and haven't actually moved much or gotten any dinner and it's nearing 7:30pm. Ah well! Soon!

Aaaaalso today I bit farewell to my lovely beta fish, Horemheb. He passed away earlier this evening, much to my friend Amy's distress. She was taking care of him for me while I was away from school, and did a wonderful job! He was just an old little fish~ Poor fellow is being given a viking-style funeral. R.I.P. Horemheb~

I sometimes wear shorts.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Only sometimes.
Other times I tattoo small folding chairs on myself.

But most of the time I sit in 34.C weather under a tent, with glitter glued to my skin and wish it was raining or something.

But today was my last day of work for a little while! Hurrah!
(get this glitter off of me now)

August 22nd.

Photobucket
Photobucket

That is what I wore to work yesterday, where I sat covered in glitter reading a book that I almost finished. Had to leave the book though, as it wasn't mine... maybe I'll find it in the future and finish it? Hmm. It was windy and I could actually wear my sweater for more than ten minutes again today! On top of that, actually worked until 5pm as well! Pretty good day, I'd say~

Don't think I got a photo of it, but there is a new hat in my collection... hmm..
I might have to photograph the collection one of these days too, come to think of it.

In more sombre news, NDP leader Jack Layton passed away this morning from a currently undisclosed cancer. He was the leader of the official opposition party against the current conservative government and a very well loved personality in Canadian Politics. I don't think the party would be where it is today with him, and even though I didn't vote for them in the last election, they would have been my second choice.
RIP Jack Layton; I hope your headstone doesn't have cherubs on it.

Today was a particularly slow day at work, with only one customer within the first two and a half hours. It picked up only slightly from there, but not enough to keep shop opened passed four hours. So I closed up, and my friend Deirdre and I went on an adventure to the museum, and to a music shop (I got a D harmonica, see?), and looked wistfully in the window of the vintage shop which was unfortunately closed.
It shouldn't be tomorrow though, which will be lovely!

Throughout all of this it had been a bit windy and almost a little uncomfortable in just a tshirt, so I had my mum bring me a sweater at work which I happily wore all day.

In other news my dad just got back from a work trip to Turkey, where he found me those delightful handmade shoes that I will be sporting at the farmer's market tomorrow. Also the evil eye earrings which I will modify slightly to go through my turquoise tunnels and be all fantastic and things! I'll take pictures and things.

I counted all the change I had piled in the bottom of my bag over the last two months from my trip to the UK, and it turns out I have almost 20pounds in change, and about 14euro as well! I have it all organized and as my mom said '[I] can use it next year.'
Next year, mother? You have clearly given up, as I am going off to the UK again! I am, and it shall be grand and everything wonderful like that~ Can't wait!

evening!

Photobucket

Contemplating my hair a lot today, which kept me a little bit occupied between people and worrying about a storm front at work this afternoon.

I'm going to grow out one side of it into a wavy, 20's fingerwaved style thing so I can pin it up on my head if need be with my single hairpin, and the other side shall be very very short per normal.
It shall still be undercut all the way around, as it's too thick to live otherwise! And then it shall be interesting and long on one side, and very short and scrubby on the side that has two cowlicks and bothers me...yah...

(I'm much more pleased with everything than those pictures might make you think!)

Tonight I went out to a cafe with my friend Amanda, and we had lovely coffees and made things from yarn and had a grand old time! It shall have to happen again sometime, I think.

Work again tomorrow~

Today, work! blah.
