"Oh 2π, Mr. Watson"

(joke from math class today...em...)

Well, I had a lovely morning and lazed around at home for a while, since I had a spare block first thing today! It was quite nice. I spent my time watching for some the original Dracula with Bela Lugosi. ( <3 ) Very cool. In fact, when I finish writing this post, I'll be going back to that movie.

Outfit today!

Photobucket
Photobucket
( GAP top, United Colours of Benetton skirt, tights?, Italian suede boots )

First time I've worn as skirt in over a month! crazy! It's been really really cold though, so I do actually have a reason.

Oh! Decorated my house too~

Photobucket

Well that's just a bush but you get the idea!

Oh (again) !
If I ask a question at the bottom of posts sometimes, would you all answer it if you choose to comment, along with whatever it was you were going to say in the first place? maybe?
awesome.

Question: 'If you were about to be trapped inside a 'Classic' book (old classics.) for..say 5 years, which would you want to be stuck in, and why?'

Robyn's Answer: Personally, I would want to be stuck in Moby Dick, because I want to meet Queequeg and hear Captain Ahab yelled 'Thar she blows! 'Tis the White Whale!!'

:D

Once upon a time we all living in trees~

I'm so sorry everyone! I was in such a flurry of crazyness yesterday, racing around town in heels that hurt my feet (but look very nice) and leaving in and out of various outfits that I forgot my camera! Ack~ I apologize!

But I can fill you in~

Yesterday I:
-Got all dressed with hair and makeup done by 10:30am (which isn't hard)
-Met at my school at 11:00am to help carry piles of musical stuff to cars
-Got to the venue and set up
-Stood around worrying about where our bass player was
-Played until I couldn't get notes about C anymore
-Raced off to the museum
-ran around in the museum (in band clothes), helping everyone finish the set up
-got my costume on
-Stood around for the next 3 hours telling everyone that NO, THE WORLD IS NOT ENDING SIR, THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUESTION!
-got home
-made pompoms
-fell asleep

-gasp- haha sooo...yes crazy, camera-less day.

So instead of photos today, I shall now list reasons as to why I believe that the 2012 theory is a load of..something nasty, and is just plain silly. (here you are Sasha)

Unravel the Turtle brings you: "Robyn's list of why the world will NOT be ending in 2012"

1. The Mayan Calendar is a circle. Where does it end? It doesn't. take that apocalyptic theories

2. The dates aren't totally match-up-able apparently. So the 21st of 2012 could be wrong.

3. The Calendar isn't ending! The 13th b'ak'tun cycle out of twenty (TWENTY!) is ending. Each b'ak'tun is 144,000 k'in (days) long, which, when you work it out is about 394 years. When all twenty cycles end they start again, and I'm pretty sure that brings us into the '5th World', but I'm not totally sure on that part.

(We are in the 4th world right now, where as the first three were attempts of Creation to make a perfect world, and they failed. Then the 4th was created and man was placed in it. So Says Mayan mythology!)

4. Apocalypse isn't even part of mayan culture!

5. The idea od time ending is souly a Western world invention. In out minds, time runs in a straight line, which would end at some point and cast us all into oblivion. But! In most older cultures, they believed that time was a circle and turned forever, thus restating my first point.

6. People can say that 'The Mayans did this and this and look what happened to them! They're dead!', but that's totally untrue. The Mayan people are still well and living in the same places they pretty much always have.

7. I hate the movie 2012. Bloody Hollywood.

Aaanyways! There you have all of the reasons (or at lease the ones I can think of right now) as to why the world is most certainly not ending in a few years. Don't worry darlings, everything will still be around on the 22nd. The only difference would be that we have just entered the 14th b'ak'tun. (which I only say again because I like typing it)

And lastly, because it seemed like fun, I shall follow Faux Naif's post and write about 10 things that make me happy! :D Oh Joy!

1. Hot chocolate. I simply adore the stuff! I could actually drink it every day of the week, and sometimes I do that (since I just got a pile of it to keep in my locker)

2.Sitting around with my kitty on my lap, purring like a motorboat. He's seriously the loudest kitty I've ever heard, but he's awesome and huge and I love him <3

3. That moment right before you go off on a trip, or you're about to do something amazing and you suddenly realize 'Hey! this is real! I'm really going!'. It's such a great feeling.

4. Inventing games with friends. They all turn into inside jokes which last for ages and no one has any idea what you are talking about~

5. Finishing a giant project. A huge sigh of relief washes over you for a moment before you realize that now you've got nothing to do. (except in my case...I need to edit. haha~ )

6. Learning archaic things. I personally love knowing how to do things the old fashioned way. It's far more rewarding to have to work hard to make something yourself. It doesn't always turn out perfectly, but if your own sweat and blood goes into it, it's worth a lot more to you!

7. The Ocean. enough said.

8. Eating Tillamook Cheese. The Pepperjack stuff is so darn yummy! We jsut got 3 pounds of it from our friends who went down to the states yesterday. I'm so happy! No guesses what I'm eating for lunch!

9. Adventure! I have to add that. Who doesn't love to travel! I'm going to Europe for 2 weeks next spring and I can't wait!

10. Laughing. :D

Have a good day! I'm off to put up christmas lights! :D

Tomorrow will be fun!

But today was pretty darn awesome too!
Mostly..the after school part.

I got to the museum I volunteer at twice a week at about 3:30pm, and everyone was running around frantically. You see, we're opening an exhibit tomorrow afternoon about the Year of Astronomy. There are various displays about the study of the stars over the agees and a few people in costume.

Me!

I'm totally in costume! I get to be a Mayan Astronomer and leap out from behind the giant Mayan Long-count calendar that the other students working there made and contradict everyone who dares to say that the calender 'predicts' the end of the world! It doesn't. I could rant on here. ohhhhh I could, I could. But I'll save you all the pain of having to listen..er...read all that jazz.

Unless you want me too! I don't know if any of you believe is that 'World ending in 2012 because the Mayan Calendar says so' stuff...but..I'll say this on the subject, before stomping off in a huff;

"How can a circle end?"

Thank you!

And now some photos of what I came up with in the span of an hour, of what a mayan priest might wear!

I'll try to take pictures tomorrow too!

Wed.

That is a word I can actually not spell. Wed. I'll spell it in short form forever, I'm fairly sure.
(shhh..It took me..at least 4 years to learn how to spell Neighbor) I'm a terrible speller! Thank goodness for spell check!

I know i'm posting this on thursday..but shh.
I didn't have the pictures up yesterday!

This is my pretty cool outfit from yesterday~ I was quite pleased with it. It felt just right for hanging around a museum all afterroon reading ancient newspapers to try and gleem out facts about the Canadian Navy in WWII. Hard stuff, let me say.

Photobucket
( RW&CO. top, Tommy Hilfiger cardigan, Old Navy slacks, Handmade necklace, bowler hat )

I'm looking at a map of Mt.Everest! My room is pretty awesome, guys, pretty awesome indeed.

Photobucket

I had some deep meaning behind the writing of the types of makeup where you would put them...but I lost it just as I went to type. If anyone wants to gleem the meaning back out again, please do!

Word of the day.. Gleem! I'm probably spelling it wrong!
Yay!

Knit Graffiti

The lovely Miss Morag reminded me of Knit-graffiti today, which is something I've not thought about in some time!

I have actually dipped my toes into that subject...

Japanese Stab Binding Tutorial

I said I'd finish it!

I did say that..right? I'm pretty sure I did.
(I'm thinking all this while I'm typing in a half irish/scottish -ish accent and wondering why I can't translate that into actual speech. Why it must be because I can't always roll my Rrrrrr's )

Ehnieways.

Don't you wish just everything could be spelled phonetically? That would be dandy.

ha...

Sorry. I get like this when I've been a hermit all day and have not left my home. I think I'll go dig a hole and sit in it for a while, deep in the forest someplace. That would be an...interesting experience!

Alright, I'll stop bothering you good people of the internet and give you the tutorial!

I apologize for my lack of enthusiastic speaking in the video, as well as the lack of music.

NOTE: Something strange happens near the end, and my voice goes really strange.. When I loaded it onto youtube it did say there had been an error.so I'm guessing that's what it is. Sorry! If you have any questions about the messed up step, please ask!

Really, I talk to with enthusiasm that that! I swear! (edit: after reviewing the video 10 seconds after posting...maybe I do normally talk like that? Ask..someone who talks to me a lot?)

Thank you, and good night!

News, everyone!

haha ahh Futurama, you slay me!

Well, I'd first like to thank Miss Faux Naif for giving me an award on her blog! I feel so special, thank you! hehe~
(Am I supposed to do something now...? :o )

Sorry I've not posted any cool outfits lately, I've been studying like mad for a Biology test I wrote today. It wasn't as hard as I thought...ah well. But I did study a lot! And then I procrastinated for a while, crocheted myself some lovely mittens to match my scarf!

I've totally never made mittens before, so these really turned out better than I'd expected. While I was making them, I came across the old 1941 'The Wolf Man' movie playing on the BRAVO! Channel, I think it was.
I was so excited! I've never actually seen any old werewolf movies, and when I finally clued in that 'Bela the Gypsy' was played by Bela Lugosi I actually shrieked with joy and ran around my house for a few minutes before calming now evern slightly. Seriously, I love that guy! So awesome~ (But Orson Welles still has the best voice ever gifted upon a human being, and I stand by that)

movie from youtube

Have a trailer! Apparenly they are doing a re-make of this movie sometime soon...which I might go see, but....there will be no Bela! D:
((If anyone has a copy of the 1931 original Dracula film...somehow..send it to me! haha ))

Here are my mittens!

Photobucket

Photobucket
(handmade scarf, handmade mittins, Italian sued boots, Suzy Shier coat, Old navy Jeans, Moscow Jazz Festical shirt)

ahahah you can see my nose! That was really not intended, but it looks pretty cool! hehe. I'm pretty proud of them~

And lastly, before I go buy a Christmas present for my little brother, I have a question;
Does drawing pictures of myself all the time make me vain? I don't really think so..since what do you know better than yourself? but it might...

Me. :D

Have a great day everyone!

AAAAAAAAAEEEEEAAAEEEEE!!

OHMYGOODNESSME!
-happy dance-

I've had a good day!
(except for the getting the H1N1 shot. My arm hurts! >: )

1st Good thing:

-take a huge breath!-
MY DRESS CAME! EEE!

sorry! I'm excited! It took me a few minutes to figure out how to get the zipper to do up, because I was stranding strangely, and it is very fitted, so it wouldn't close unless the smallest part was sitting right at the waist. But It fits! That's the main thing!

Blue Velvet Vintage.com peoples! I adore them right now~ Thank you so much!
And thank you for the lovely bracelet you sent as well! It's so pretty, I'll probably wear it for the next week or so without ever taking it off. <3!
Also, the dress is more of a blue/green than the picture I posted earlier, which is just dandy, since I wanted a green dress to begin with anyways. Its greener than these picture show too...And is fully lined with a purple..something-fabric.
And and and! I have a petticoat to wear under it! (I'm having fun with this, allow me to indulge please!)
Pictures! I will get better shoes.

Photobucket

Photobucket

haha That last one took me a few minutes of editting to finish~ I'm so proud!
That was right when...I decided it would be a good idea to, wearing a fancy silk dress, and heels, turn the timer on and go running around during a wind-storm. Brilliant, Robyn!

Yay!

In other news, Yesteerday I crocheted myself a watch!

Photobucket

Cool huh? It kept my wrist warm all day long! And confussed the masses, which was ever so fun.

In other-other news, I just applyed to university this evening. Major life step, i know! I'm excited/nervous! Hurray!

I'm not making to much sense, so I'll leave you all alone now!
Bueno Noche!

My eyebrows are bothering me...

I just spent the last few nights at various friend's homes and I'm beat!
Apparently no one knows what sleep is anymore..but that's alright, because I had cake for breakfast this morning (breakfast at 10am..so late!)

My dad was cleaning out some old boxes today, and found some black and white photographs that he took and developed himself in a darkroom when he was probably around my age.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

I love black and white photos.

Today in my region of the world, it is very windy!
I did try to get a photo of the tree swaying in the wind, but since it is actually just...a still picture you can't really tell. Imagine it, my friends! Imagine!

Photobucket

and lastly (this isn't such a verbally interesting post, since I'm sort of half asleep and I need to go knit a tube scarf.)
(( Hi Brandon!! ))

What I wore (for the two hours of the day where I wasn't in PJ's)

Photobucket
Jean Wearhouse top, GAP top, Old Navy trousers, BeWild slip-on shoes, vest from Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo-Jump, Handmade Scarf

Those gloves don't count...it was just really cold out!
Alright! That's all for today folks!

Floral gift flowers.

I created a little turtle (a large version of banner-turtle up there!) for my friend's birthday, and a quilted case for one of her electronic companions.

But how to wrap them?

I believe that the wrapping of a gift should make it look as interesting as whatever is inside is! I usually wrap things in some form of brown packing paper with twine and sealed with wax and a metal seal. Today, however..I have time on my hands (er...didn't want to so my homework so) I decided to try something more complicated!

You know those flowers you can always buy around Christmas time? Poinsettas, or something?
Her present looks like one now.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Isn't that cool though? The actual gift is in the pot, at the very bottom of the giant paper flower.

I started by crumpling a giant piece of brown paper up a bunch of times, then cutting the corners off to turn it into a circle.
Then I putthe gift in the center and gathered the paper around the top, and tied it with a ribbon! I bunched up another piece of gold paper and tied that too, then glued the bottom of the gold flower into the center of the brown one. Aaaaand then I painted the brown paper with highlights of red.
Tada!

I hope she doesn't tear it! :D
Happy Birthday Sam!

Also, for you're viewing pleasure, and because I don't have a good outfit for today, since I've spent all day painting and doing homework...The birthday-card that goes with the flower!

Photobucket

I'm the British explorer with the pith helment and monocle in the corner, and my friend Sam is the Plesiosaur. hahaha ><
(so much fun drawing that!)

Ciao guys! Have a great day!

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

"Oh it's a good day, for singing a song, and it's a good day, for moving along. Yes it's a good day!"

Has anyone seen that cold-medicine commerial? I love the song!
The trumpets must have mutes, which is fantastic.

Today I went for a walk with my family at White Lake. (pst! It's not really a lake)
..Alright, it's more of a salt-flat. That to get near, you have to find a surdy, thick post and force it under the barbed wire fence and crawl under...

-cough-

It's pretty though!

Photobucket

My brother took that picture. See how I'm a triangle? I'm a strong shape in this image! haha

The other cool thing that happened in my day of no school (thank you November 11th!) Was that my parents bought me shoes! Happy Day!

Photobucket
Photobucket

2 pairs of 60$! Who can pass that up? I really only wanted the black ones, but they were like "Oh you may as well pick out another pair! Something practical though, ok?"
D: What's not practical about heels?
...alright, a lot. I like the runners though! They actually have support in them unlike most of the other shoes I currently own.

I think I'll wear those shoes of Friday, when I go to the museum again (and secretly bring my camera thing time to get some pictures of old things from the 1939 newspapers I'm looking at! There are lots of hat commercials!

Also today, I made a video-tutorial about book binding, but youtube isn't letting me post movies over 10minutes long, so I've got ot figure out what I can cut before showing you all! Stay tuned!

I'll end today's ramble with another picture of my hamster Brutus (Brutums!), and the I'm off to make popcorn. Ciao!

Photobucket

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

The only trouble with being female is that there is no way to show men how much it hurts sometime!

I'm sure you have a vague idea of what I mean by that title. hm?
The sort of thing that makes you have to go home from school early and spend the rest of the day in bad mood with hot drinks, hmm?
It got better though! :D

I was feeling yucky in my Biology class and my friend walks in and hands me a Timmy's Hot Chocolate. <3! I love you Bree!

and...What I wore today! (for half the day)

Photobucket
Sweater(unknown), Old navy Jeans, Thrifted crystal necklace from my friend's mom, bamboo socks

Arn't those pictures just oozying arty and deep personalitiy traits? ha! I don't think so either, but the lighting was pretty cool regardless~ My favorite part is the different coloured music-stands in the foreground. I'll have to remember to stick them into more photos.

On the topic of music GUESS WHAT??!! (!!??) My Grandman, being absolutly AMAZING...-building suspense-..-badly-...GAVE ME HER MANDOLIN!! I own a small stringed instrument now! I'm so excited! I'll be sure to become amazing at playing it, don't you worry your pretty little heads about it.

The other cool thing that happened yesterday was that I got a hamster! Told you!
His name is indeed Brutus Bernini and he's addorable! Not used to being held yet, but we're working on that.

Photobucket

Yes, yes...he's blurry. Hamsters mover a lot, ok?

On another note, before my last picture of the day, I just figured out how to take the photobucket link out of my picture's html coding! Aren't you all proud? It only look me 4 months of blogging to get that working! haha

Leftover from Halloween!

Photobucket

My brother was Raptor-Jesus. I told him if that was to offensive to people at school that he should shrug and say;
"Alright, I'm your Dinosaur-Savior." Or something.
He actually made that mask! Crazy huh? I seem to have an industrious family!

haha I said I was about finished but I lied.
Sorry!
I started volunteering at the little museum in town today, and I get to help put together a display on the past 100 Years of the Canadian Navy. I'm looking though piles of old newspapers (originals!) from 1939 right now, and writing down everything I come across that mentions the Navy, or the wars.
My conclution for the day?

This town looks the same. The only difference is that hats were only 2$ a peice and the theatre played Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff films.

Poo.

Brutus Bernini

Is the name of my soon-to-be-hamster!
Does anyone else like those lovely little furry kritters? I used to have a Syrian named 'Chuck Cheddars the Super-Hamster', but he died a few years ago (and I was very upset.) But I'm finally getting another! My brother and I named him today, even though we don't have him yet~ hehe. I'll take pictures when I get him home!

I think I'll start this post formally off with this here:

Photobucket

The lovely Miss.Isabel of Hipster Musings? said in a comment a few posts back that my hair reminded her of Yokoo. Now, until that was mentioned I hadn't actually looked up Yokoo and so I only had a vague Idea of her in my mind. Moments later I gave up on a blanket I had been trying to knit for a year and cast the entire thing off into one 8-foot long strip, which I decided to wind into that huge scarf I'm wearing above. THEN I actually went and looked up Yokoo.

"Huh!" I thought, "I do kind of remind myself of her! Straaange world."

And it really is.
But regardless of....whatever that was all supposed to mean I have been wearing that scarf all weekend long! It's so crazy-looking, and I love it! (mostly glad that my knitting actually gained a purpose, even if it's not what I had in mind to start with.)

Photobucket

I found this amazing set of 'fancy' grilled-cheese recipies the other day in some old magazine kicking around the art room at school. This one was called the 'O Canada'

-Cover two slices of bread with nippy (aged) cheddar
-Add Canadian Bacon or thin apple slices dusted with cinnimon
-butter outsides and cook until melted in a frying pan.

It was really good! I did the one with bacon, but I swear I will actually try the apple one sometime! It sounds amazing~

And Finally for all you fine people, here is my King Neptune.

Photobucket

Isn't he great?! <3

Good night All!

"Remember Remember the 5th of November"

"Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up the King and Parli'ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
And what should we do with him? Burn him!"

Guess What?!

Guess what could imply an awful lot, actually. In this case it means I bought a dress! It's a lovely little 1950's vintage sundress and I can't wait for it to arrive!

Photobucket

Isn't it just darling? (yes I did just say that) It's a floral 'painterly' print on silk and I'm so excited! It's totally not the colour I was expecting, but I do seem to have a thing for that shade of blue right now.
I think I'm going to add a golden-yellow sash around the waist that would trail off the back...maybe.

What colour of shoes? :o

What I wore! (yesterday -cough- )

Photobucket
( Bellina avant garde top, Old Navy long grey sweater, jeans from Dynamite, Boots? )

Don't you just love it when you are using the self-timer on the camera, but you can't tell if it has actually gone off or not yet, so you stand around in the same possition for way to long as passersby wonder what on earth you're up too?
I do.

Help me find a dress?

So hey guys, I'm looking for my prom dress right now, and it's really hard! I just lost one that I really liked to someone else on ebay ( darn ebay). I was wondering though, if anyone comes across a dress for sale that I might like could you please send me a link? Thank you so much!

This is what I'm looking for in a prom dress:
-full skirt (hopefully), just below knee length-ish
-No sleeves.
-green, or yellow? or purple, even...maybe
-under 300$ preferable! (I'm not rich~ haha )
-1950's vintage dresses = love!

If you could help that would be wonderful! :D

As for What I wore today:

Photobucket
( Tommy Hilfiger sweater, Gap blue long-sleeved shirt, Old Navy jeans, Slip-on VANS )

Apparently there is actually a Tommy Hilfiger store in the mall near me, and it has been there for ages and I just never knew! haha shows how observant I can be! They do have some very nice sweaters in there, that's for sure.

That blue shirt (now I have .... 2 whole blue shirts! whoa! haha) is so soft I can't even believe it! 40% Modal, 60% cotton is a very good combination. I had to look up Modal, and apparently it originates in India and is made from reconstituted cellulous from beech trees. Go figure.

Leftovers from Halloween!!
I thought my brother's fantastic pumpkin deserved to be adored by whomever comes across my little blog here.

Photobucket

Isn't it great?! He spent at least 2 hours carving that illistration into the pumpkin with chisels from the garage.

Alright! I should actually go do my math homework now...I guess... :o

But for tomorrow! That book I posted pages of
Way Back Here should be done being made tomorrow, and I can show you all! Maybe even whip up a tutorial if anyone is interested? We shall see!! (how much homework I have)
